Frequently Asked Questions

Why Chiropractic at Graham Chiropractic?

Prior to any chiropractic treatment, our doctors take the time to learn about your health conditions, needs, complaints, and goals. Initial visits are often an hour-long where a thorough case history and evaluation are performed. Time is taken to get to know you, assess your conditions, and then to determine if chiropractic is right for you. Most of our new patients are referred to us from other patients who have enjoyed the benefits of our care. We enjoy a referral network from local medical physicians, physical therapists, and other healthcare providers who recognize the importance of quality chiropractic care for their patients. Established in 1992, Graham Chiropractic has earned its exceptional reputation in the Seattle community.

What is an Adjustment?

An adjustment is a safe and proven method of restoring proper joint motion in the body. During the procedure, you will likely hear a small noise or crack sound that comes from the joint. This noise is simply the release of gas from the synovial fluid in the joint which enhances joint motion and stimulates neurological input. Muscles relax and become less painful and balance is restored to the system.

Once I See a Chiropractor will I Always Have to See a Chiropractor?

The simple answer is no. Chiropractic is a non-addictive treatment that has lasting benefits. Many patients successfully use this treatment to get out of pain and then discontinue care with lasting results. Others choose to use the care in a more supportive way to support their normal movement patterns, enhance their athletic performance and maintain low stress in their body. Please remember that the stresses that lead to neck and back pain don’t go away so patients learn how to use the care to their advantage to remain pain-free and healthy. The choice is always yours. Your body, your health.

I’ve tried chiropractic and it didn’t help me. Why would I try again?

Not all chiropractic care is created equal. Our center seems to attract patients who have tried a variety of treatments for their stubborn pains without satisfactory results. Some are considering more invasive procedures like strong pain medications, injections, and surgeries. Chiropractic care like anything else will fail if it isn’t performed properly. Prior to succumbing to procedures that can cause permanent harm, try our conservative methods. You have nothing to lose but your pain.

Are there different kinds of chiropractic adjustments?

Yes. There are many approaches to chiropractic care and our team utilizes the most effective chiropractic methods for each patient. Care in our office is individualized and specific for whatever condition we may be treating. Each patient presents with their own unique conditions and our chiropractic doctors are prepared to offer a variety of evidence-based options to meet each patients’ specific needs.

I can crack my own back and neck, why do I need a chiropractor?

There are many things that a chiropractic adjustment does to restore function and promote good health. The specificity of the adjustment is of utmost importance and our doctors have been trained to be very specific with their treatment. One of the basic criteria that are used to determine where a chiropractic adjustment is to be performed is to diagnose which joints are fixated or locked up and lack normal motion. The adjustment is then used to restore motion and free up the fixated joint. When a person cracks themselves the crack commonly comes from the joints above and below the fixated segment. When the area is stressed through the range the joints that offer the least amount of resistance release and the joints that are stuck or fixated remain stuck. When this is done repeatedly it is actually harmful as it adds motion to joints that are already overworked. As these joints become too mobile the muscles begin to tighten more to protect the area. This makes the person want to crack it again. Most people who crack their own spinal joints are doing it regularly, sometimes multiple times a day which causes damage to their spine and promotes more pain. Proper chiropractic assessment and treatment can solve this problem. Bottom line: Don’t do it.
