Coconut oil is a staple product in my kitchen and bathroom. It has to be one of the most versatile “foods” out there because it can be used for much more than cooking. Coconut oil is a medium chain fatty acid which allows it to be metabolized differently from other dietary fats. Coconut oil is very beneficial when taken internally because it can reduce fat mass, has anti-inflammatory properties, improves cholesterol levels and is antimicrobial. In addition to consuming it, here are some other ways you can be using coconut oil:
- Skin moisturizer: apply this topically for the hydrating, soothing and anti-aging properties.
- Hair conditioner: repair damaged hair and improve shine by using coconut oil as a hair conditioner.
- Makeup remover: I apply coconut oil to a cotton ball and use this to remove my eye makeup. It’s much better than using the store bought eye makeup removers because it doesn’t contain unnecessary chemicals.
- Shaving lotion
- Diaper rash cream
- Massage oil
- Teeth whitener: swish 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 10- 30 minutes. “Oil pulling” can be beneficial for gingivitis, while also making your teeth whiter.
I hope you have a great weekend and try getting creative with coconut oil!
